Lambert Head coach Louis Daniel look on as his Longhorns take the field

The fall is upon us and it’s time for those Friday night lights. Football season is starting up as the Longhorns are set to take the field Aug. 25. Lambert is coming off one of the best seasons in the program’s history. They won their first ever region title and their first playoff game in history. After a very successful season, the Longhorns look to improve on last year’s achievements’. They have many players returning, and 28 of them are seniors. Kenneth Dicks hopes to lead the team to some great wins.

The Longhorns have already played a scrimmage game against Alpharetta, where the teams came to a draw with a score of 20-20. The actual season starts this Friday at home against Mountain View. This will be a crucial game as the team will need a win in order to start off the year right and get that first win out of the way. The next two games will be on the road with the first one being against Collins Hill, who Lambert beat last season. The next game is a test against the Cherokee Warriors.

The fourth game of the season is against the Lanier Longhorns. Lambert lost to Lanier last year after they were winning at the start, but the Longhorns blew the lead and lost. They play another two games on the road with the first one being against the Wheeler Wildcats. This is the last game against an out of region opponent. The next game is against the big rival South Forsyth. The game is at South and Lambert hopes to beat them for the second year in a row, however, it will be a challenge with the game being played at South.

The Longhorns play a three game stretch at home against the region opponents of North Forsyth, West Forsyth, and Milton. Lambert beat North Forsyth and West Forsyth last season but they lost to Milton. North Forsyth was a challenge last year in the first half. Lambert was able to rally and won the game 48-40. The next game against West Forsyth will be a tough one as they were very strong last year. Lambert was still able to win the game last year. The last game of the home stand is against Milton. The Longhorns went to Milton last year but they could not get anything going on offense and lost the game.

The last game of the season is against Central Forsyth. Lambert steamrolled the Bulldogs 59-0 last season as they won the region championship in this game. Although Central may have improved this year, Lambert should be able to beat them. This season will be a good one as the Longhorns are looking to repeat the same success from last year. The key for the Longhorns is the QB position as they have to adjust with a new QB since Richie Kenny has graduated. Some key seniors will be Kenneth Dicks and Marcus Chatelain.
