Lambert’s Track and Field team has been performing well this season. Coach Tigue, the head coach, explained how both the boys’ and girls’ teams are significantly improving with every meet. The girls in particular have been winning most of their meets.

Not only have they been excelling in their meets, but their relays have been outstanding this season.

“Our 4 by 1 girls team is one of the tops in the state, our 4 by 2 girls team is one of the tops in the state and our 4 by 8 team is one of the tops in the state,” Tigue listed. “Our relays are where we are accelerating.

For reference, 4 by 1 means 4 x 100 meters, 4 by 2 is 4 x 200 meters, etc.

Behind the scenes, the team’s success could have only been met by the work of the athletes. Coach Tigue believes that the athletes are a great group of kids who are willing to work hard. His advice is to work hard, meet the expectations and try to get better.

For future athletes, there is always a spot on the team.

“We’d love to have people out there if they’re willing to improve,” Tigue explained. “We’d love to have them out there next year.”

From the perspective of sophomore track and field runner Jialong Cheng, track and field is something he finds fun. For him, it’s like playing tag with his friends.

In the end, Cheng also had serious advice for future track athletes.

“When you eat well, you run fast,” Cheng said with seriousness. “When you eat cheeseburgers, you’re going to be a walking cheeseburger.”

Track and field here at Lambert is unique and exciting, to say the least. Make sure to support them and cheer them on!
