From January 25-27, The Acting Troupe of Lambert (ATL) performed the musical “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”, based on the Charles Dickens book. This was a musical that was not only highly advertised, but was the last performance for many senior cast members in ATL. The plot follows the people of Cloisterham panicking over the sudden disappearance and presumed murder of an Englishman named Edwin Drood.
This musical is different from other musicals presented at Lambert because there is more of an audience involvement. At the end of the performance, the audience had a chance to vote on who they thought was the suspect in Drood’s murder out of seven suspects.
Not only was the plot a big part of the allure of this musical, but the incredible talent of the members involved in putting together this production attracted the audience.
“I found the girl who was singing “Moonlight” to be amazing,” Janice Rho stated. “She has a God-given voice, and I would kill to be able to sing like that.”
This play would be very interesting for book and mystery novel lovers, especially because it is a “play within a play” musical. However there are other aspects to the musical that students would enjoy.
“I would say this would definitely be for people who really enjoy interactive musicals,” Rho claimed.
Although the showings for this play have come to an end, this musical and many others are great displays of the talents of the students at Lambert. ATL will continue to put on performances that cater to a large audience and give students an opportunity to support the arts.
