In the intricate tapestry of social progress, the struggle for women’s rights and education has always been a defining thread, woven with resilience and determination. Yet, in the current social landscape, this vital thread appears to be fraying, threatening to unravel the victories of generations past. At the forefront of this, today at 32%, there are fewer women working in technology than there were in 1984.

At Lambert, it is easy to see the uneven ratio of women to men in subjects like computer science and other technology oriented fields.

“In my CSA class, there’s over 20 guys, and there’s around seven to nine girls,” Lambert junior and Women in Tech President Reya Tk  said. “The proportions are really  disproportionate, making it intimidating.”

The lack of an inclusive environment pushes women to fear tech. The Women in Tech club at Lambert aspires to create a more welcoming environment for women to prosper in tech fields. They aim to give opportunities to women to explore different companies and network within the tech community.

“It can be intimidating as a girl to step into the world of tech, because it seems like you have to know a lot about the field beforehand and it’s very technical, but this is an introduction to figure out how to first take your first steps into the field,” Reya Tk explained.
The Women in Tech club at Lambert stands as a beacon of hope amid these daunting challenges. By providing a platform for young women to explore the realms of technology, the club will help in actively empowering the next generation of female leaders. Initiatives like these are essential not only for encouraging gender diversity in the tech industry but also for fostering a more inclusive and innovative society.

As the world grapples with the problem of gender inequality, the efforts of organizations like Women in Tech are instrumental in reshaping the narrative of the tech industry. Such organizations are instrumental in weaving a stronger, more resilient thread in the tapestry of social progress, ensuring that the generations to come inherit a world where opportunities are abundant and dreams know no boundaries.
