The Acting Troupe of Lambert strives to provide a welcoming and exciting environment for students by offering countless drama and musical theater performances. While the actors on stage claim most of the audience’s praise, students operating behind the scenes are working on the technical theater aspect to light up every show. Whether it’s fixing stage lighting or setting up microphones, the tech community works hard to bring each show to life.
Theater tech handles all of the backstage work on productions, so students build and paint stage sets, run lights and sound and manage all scene changes. Each student plays a different role in the production process, because theater tech is divided into different sections to ensure each aspect of the show is covered. For example, some students focus on backstage work with props on the stage management team, while some work on set construction and painting and others operate stage illumination with the light team. Tech students make sure that all rehearsals and shows run smoothly and safely for the actors performing.
“My freshman year I wasn’t doing anything through the school,” sophomore Lorelei Blackman stated. “I wanted to join an involved community and tech was a good after school commitment that showcased multiple things I was good at.”
Lambert’s acting troupe was gearing up for My Fair Lady in late February. The show required intricate set pieces to reflect the early 1900s look in London, featuring low foggy lights and extravagant costumes.
“We wanted to be as creative as possible when it comes to costumes for My Fair Lady,” Blackman said. “It’s a very classy but fun style we want to incorporate. In the original show, the tech crew used moving sets that we might try to re-create.”
My Fair Lady took the stage between Feb. 27, 2026 – Mar. 7, 2026 in the Lambert Auditorium. Tech is working hard behind the scenes to provide props, elaborate sets and bold costumes that bring the show to life.
“When we aren’t actively putting on a show, tech works on designing, painting and building future sets, planning out how lighting will work and helping with rehearsals,” sophomore Taylor Ingle said. “The tech crew right now is figuring out and finalizing everything for My Fair Lady in February, it’s been a great show to work on.”
While the actors gain most recognition for each show, the tech team is the backbone to the Acting Troupe. Countless hours are spent building sets, and both time and effort is spent working with spotlights by the stage lighting crew. Ultimately, without students working in technical theater, no production at Lambert would feel complete.
