The National Football League (NFL) draft took place a couple of weeks ago, and several star players, such as Fernando Mendoza, got selected; however, one interesting headline was that the Atlanta Falcons selected Aveion Terrell with the 48th pick in the second round. This pick was surprising for many reasons: Terrell was projected to go in the first round by many, and he is the brother of A.J. Terrell Jr., an incredible cornerback. Both brothers also play the same position.
Aevion Terrell was a projected first rounder by many. His skill set, versatility and aggressiveness impressed a lot of NFL scouts, as they deemed him as one of the best cornerback prospects in the draft. Nonetheless, those dynamics shifted when Terrell had tweaked his hamstring during a private workout. This significantly dropped his draft stock, with some mock drafts having him going as late as the third round, much lower than his first round projection. Terrell ended up getting picked in the second round with the 48th pick by the Falcons, with three cornerbacks being selected before him.
“I think they got a steal in Aveion Terrell.” junior Caleb Nightingale said. “He’s got first round talent, and is playing with a chip on his shoulder”
Aveion Terrell didn’t just get selected to the Falcons for no reason. First, the Falcons have been subpar at the cornerback position for awhile, aside from A.J. Terrell. While A.J. Terrell is locking up one side of the field, the other side often leaves room for big pass plays. However, with the addition of Aveion Terrell, the other side of the field will likely be held on lock as well. Additionally, this the first time in NFL history where two brothers are playing on the same team and the same position. So, the chemistry between the two is unmatched.
“I cannot wait to see the Terrell brothers on the same defense,” Nightingale explained.
In all, the Falcons drafting Aveion Terrell adds talent to their defense and provides an interesting headline to the team. With Terrell facing adversity along his football career, he certainly has a chip on his shoulder. Moreover, playing alongside his brother should give Terrell a confidence boost, as their chemistry is unmatched. If Aveion can play to his full potential, the Falcons may have one of the best cornerback duos in NFL history, shaping up the future of their secondary.
