As the school year comes to a close, many of the sports have started to have their senior nights, one of these sports being Lambert Girls Lacrosse. On March 31, 2026, the ladies were celebrated for their efforts and achievements throughout their years with the team. Although the night is focused on the seniors, the event brings everyone on the team closer.
The night started in the locker room, where the seniors were surprised with goodie bags and their lockers being decorated. Senior player Lacey Sayre explained that the underclassmen decorate the lockers for them and how this can help them bond.
“The underclassmen being able to decorate, make baskets and write the notes lets them work together and get close because they are hanging out while they are doing it,” Sayre stated.
Many of the seniors on the team have been with Lambert for all four years and have made their mark. This can be seen in senior Hailey McDonald who scored her 100th Career Goal. Since the seniors have been on the team for such a long time, they have formed unbreakable bonds that the team wants to carry on with the underclassmen that they are leaving behind.
“Everyone sees how close our senior group is and I can see how close the other groups have gotten and how well they work together,” Sayre explained.
Having a close team is a telltale sign that the legacy will be able to be carried on. This can be seen in the team as well as many underclassmen being able to rely on the seniors to answer their questions. Being on a high school varsity team can be intimidating, but the seniors have been able to help them to feel confident on the field and strengthen the team as a whole.
Senior Night also celebrates the people that have gotten the seniors to where they are in the sport, including people such as coaches or parents. As the players come out onto the field, the rest of the team makes a tunnel for the seniors to run through. At the end of the game, the seniors and their families walk down the field and take pictures. These events can bring a sense of happiness and pride to the community.
“We all hope that it sends the message to take in the good moments because they go by so fast and especially for us,” Sayre stated.
As the season starts to come to a close with Senior night, every teammate has given their all to make sure that they have dominated for their graduating seniors. Although the celebration brought a bittersweet feeling, the team is glad they were able to celebrate their seniors and are excited to see what the rising upperclassmen can bring for seasons to come.
