Lambert Flag Football team finished their 2025-2026 season 19-3, placing them first in the region and in the Final Four, falling short to Pope High School. After their season ended, Head Coach Nate Richardson and Jacob Chesser stepped back from their positions and introduced new Head Coach Brian Daughtery.
“When I decided to step back from boys football, I still wanted to be involved so I came back to coach flag,” Daughtery mentioned.
Daughtery previously coached the flag football team in 2023 and had a 9-9 final season before stepping away from the position to pursue coaching the boys football team. Coming back, Daughtery believes he has an advantage because of his experience with the program.
“I was a flexible coach, so I know where it started and a lot of things that they’re still doing is stuff we did back when I was head coach,” Daughtery shared. “I’ve decided since they have had so much success, the past few years, I want to keep the terminology as same as possible.”
For returning players, especially seniors, Daughtery is hoping to make the transition as smooth as possible, but he understands the shift throughout the team because of the change in head coach.
“Having a new head coach means different dynamics and personalities but it will just be a good learning curve for all of us,” Daughtery noted.
Despite his previous experience with the program, Daughtery understands that sustaining the momentum throughout the team requires a period of adjustment for the coaching staff and the returning players.
As the team is looking forward to tryouts for the 2026-2027 season on May 4-5th, the focus is all about keeping that elite momentum going for the upcoming season. With a strong group of veterans coming back and new players coming in, Lambert is hoping to dominate the region again and take another shot at the state title.
