The proposed map for redistricting caused panic for many large neighborhoods, including Three Chimneys Farm

On September 12, The Board of Education (BOE) reviewed the proposed draft for the new high school district lines due to the opening of Forsyth County’s latest high school, Denmark, and to combat the overcrowding of many current high schools. After much speculation, the Board released the proposed map to the community where it was discovered many neighborhoods currently attending Lambert – for example Three Chimneys Farm and Stonegate – would be zoned for South Forsyth High School for the upcoming school year. West Forsyth and Denmark High School will also be affected by the new plans. Many families and students were left in a state of uncertainty and panic as to where they will be attending school the following year.

The redistricting plan summary posted on Forsyth County Schools’ website gives a numerical plan for the students affected by the redistricting. In total, an estimated 389 students will be moved from Lambert to South Forsyth High School, leaving 2,585 students enrolled at Lambert and 2,436 at South. Denmark is also projected to have 1,690 students while West is situated at 2,405.

The current plan is online for community review from September 13 through the 27. A new draft based on the feedback will be presented to the BOE on October 10 and will be approved by the 17 of the same month. Following this, there is a scheduled public forum and another BOE meeting. The lines for 2018/2019 redistricting will be finalized in mid-November.
