While transitioning into the school year’s second semester, Lambert’s course registration process gives students a way to utilize materials the school provides to plan and confirm schedules for the upcoming year. Course registration is a key component for students’ academic success, determining opportunities for the year ahead. The cut-off date for registration is Jan. 30, 2026 for all courses and electives. Dual enrollment will be separate, with more information in February. While the process can be difficult, it plays a crucial role in making sure that students are prepared for meeting their academic goals.
One of the key factors in the registration process is individual meetings between students and counselors. In these meetings, Lambert’s counselors are able to review the student’s academic records, talk about graduation requirements and provide guidance while selecting courses. These one-on-one conversations ensure that students are taking classes that fit their interests, abilities and long-term career plans. Counselors also provide information about understanding the expectations of more advanced classes, preparing students to make informed selections.
“We try to provide students with identifying what classes they might want to take in regards to pathways and making sure they’re in the correct pathway courses for their career goals,” Lambert Counselor Shonedra Redd explained. “We advise students to follow the teacher’s recommendation so they don’t feel overwhelmed.”
Lambert offers a variety of academic and elective courses tailored to the needs of each individual student. In addition to core classes, students also have the opportunity to choose from Advanced Placement (AP) courses, career pathway programs and various electives. Students are able to explore potential career paths and academically challenge themselves with advanced courses. Registration requires a lot of preparation and consideration to create a balanced schedule.
“We want to make sure that students are able to balance AP classes with sports, performing art activities, clubs and all of those different things,” Redd said.
Lambert offers numerous pathway options including things like peer facilitation, internships, work-based learning and more. Taking pathway courses allows students to see potential career opportunities for them in the future.
In addition, Georgia’s Dual Enrollment program allows students, grades 10-12, to take college courses through approved universities such as, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and more. These courses provide both high school and college credits, with the state covering tuition. Dual enrollment offers students early college experience with pathways to careers.
Harper Sellars, a Lambert Sophomore, is advancing to harder classes for her junior year. She wants to challenge herself and be prepared for college courses in the future.
“I’m actually really excited to take harder classes,” Sellars said. “I feel like going to school at Lambert has given me so much opportunity to do what I love, and I probably wouldn’t be able to get that at a different school.”
Students are feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety as they think about the year ahead. While courses are important, they are not everything. It’s important to keep balance in mind while selecting classes. The pressure of making registration decisions that fit every student’s unique lifestyle can feel overwhelming, but students gain independence as they take control of their futures.
While course registration can be confusing and somewhat demanding, Lambert offers students numerous opportunities to gain guidance from professionals and customize their schedules. After informed planning, students are able to enter the next school year with guidance and confidence.
