This year, Lambert’s Student Government Association (SGA) is excited to announce the theme for LaLo Fest 2023: The Wild West. LaLo Fest will be held on October 7 from 7-10 p.m.

This year’s homecoming theme was chosen to revive longhorn school spirit, especially with the new changes that have recently occurred.

“We wanted to do a western theme to revive Lambert spirit,” Student Government Advisor  advisor Rachel Smirnov stated. “With Mrs. Thrower coming in, the new principal and a new generation of Lambert students with our gorgeous incoming freshman class, we wanted to go along with a western theme that represents our school and our mascot.”

Every year, SGA hosts a spirit week before the homecoming game and a dance that abides by the theme of LaLo Fest. This year, they plan on doing the same thing by incorporating days that relate to the Wild West/Cowboy theme.

“We have some themes that are country themed. We are going to encourage students to wear cowboy hats and cowboy boots,” Mrs. Smirnov stated about this year’s spirit week. “We also have country vs country club and other things like that.”

As part of the Wild West theme, this year’s homecoming court male students will also be wearing cowboy hats, while the female students will be carrying a bouquet of dried out flowers.

When asking the student body, many are very enthusiastic about this theme. Freshman Vedanth Kalipatnapu loved how this year’s theme is related to Lambert’s mascot, the Longhorn. He believes that this shows the epitome of school spirit and pride.

“I feel like this theme is perfect because our school mascot is literally a Longhorn,” Kalipatnapu stated. “As a freshman, this theme feels like the beginning to all of the school spirit that I will feel in the future.”

A significant number of students are expressing curiosity about the reasoning behind this choice. In a recent poll conducted by the Lambert Post in order to gauge the reception of this theme among Lambert students, 39% responded positively, while 61% expressed a negative reaction.

Senior Janice Rho talks about how she is disappointed with this year’s theme, especially since she believes that no student will be able to abide by it.

“Everyone wears these cute tight dresses which are not going to look good with cowboy hats,  so no ones going to follow this year’s theme,” Rho stated. “I feel like instead they should just just have the same LED theme every year.”

The response from students has been notably diverse with a majority expressing negative reactions. The prevailing concern centers around the belief that this year’s theme does not adequately reflect the diversity of our school community. Many Lambert students feel that addressing this concern and incorporating more inclusive themes in the future would lead to a more enriching experience for all.

Regardless of the chosen LaLo Fest theme, Mrs. Smirnov emphasizes the importance of purchasing tickets promptly through GoFan. After the fall break, ticket prices will increase from $20 to $30, so make sure to buy your tickets soon!
