A New Era for Lambert Basketball as Clay Wages Steps Up as Dual Head Coach

In an unprecedented move in Georgia high school sports, Lambert High School’s Clay Wages is set to lead both the boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams next winter. This announcement comes after the retirement of the head girls’ basketball coach, Brian Moon, who left a significant legacy after five seasons with the team.

Brian Moon, a respected figure in basketball coaching, concluded his career with a commendable track record at Lambert. Under his guidance, the girls’ team reached the Sweet 16 twice consecutively and secured a 39-20 record over the last two seasons.

“I am profoundly grateful for the experiences and the community here at Lambert,” Moon said.

Following Moon’s retirement, the school considered various candidates before deciding that Clay Wages, who has successfully coached the boys’ team to a Region 6-7A championship and a 53-30 overall record, was the best fit for the role.

“After an extensive search, we realized Clay is our best option to lead both programs,” Lambert Athletic Director Drew Ferrer said. “His track record with the boys promises a bright future for the girls’ team as well.”

Wages will be entering his eighth year at Lambert, and he’s enthusiastic about his new role in the school.

“I am extremely excited to be taking over the Lambert girls basketball program,” Wages said. “Coach Moon has done a phenomenal job the last five seasons and has helped turn the Lambert girls into one of the best programs in the state. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity.”

Annarose Tyre, an All-Region selection and standout player at Lambert, will return for her senior season next year.

“I’m so excited,” Tyre said. “We are going to be pushed to our highest potential. I think we are going to get more exposure with wins, and Lambert will be a fast-paced, high-scoring team.”

This new chapter for Lambert basketball holds promise under Wages’ leadership, aiming to continue the legacy of dedication and success instilled by Coach Moon. As the school community looks forward to the upcoming season, there is a strong belief that Lambert basketball will reach new heights on both the girls’ and boys’ fronts.
