The Longhorns and the War Eagles line up before the next play in the third quarter of their big rivalry game.

The women sports’ of Lambert had a very productive week while the boys struggled heavily. The fall sports are starting slow down with Volleyball about to play in the state playoffs. Softball is still going strong in their season. Meanwhile, Football hit a major speed bump against a big rival.

Volleyball: Volleyball had a huge week as they played in the region playoffs. They started off the week Wednesday with a semifinal match against West Forsyth. The Longhorns were able to top the Wolverines as they won three sets to one. Lambert came out strong winning the first set by a solid margin. West Forsyth dominated the next set and then Lambert won the last two sets easily. The next game was the region championship against North Forsyth. People in the building knew this was going to be a battle as North Forsyth narrowly won the first set. Lambert did not let this get them down as they won the next set. The Raiders won the next set and Lambert was in a hole as they had to win the next set. The Longhorns did just that as they won and they went to a fifth set tied up 2-2. The Longhorns were able to pull out the win as they won the last set 3-2. This secured the Longhorns with another region championship. Lambert will now go on to play in the state playoffs.

Softball: The Lady Longhorns had a slow week as they split two games. The first game of the week was against the Milton Eagles. Lambert demolished Milton from the start. The Longhorns scored four runs in the first and second innings. Milton had one good inning in the fifth as they scored four runs but then Lambert answered with two runs in the last two innings. The final score was 14-5. The next game was an ugly one against South Forsyth. The Longhorns dropped this game as South Forsyth dominated 6-0. Lambert’s season is starting to wind down as the playoffs will be approaching.

Football: The Longhorns played the big rival across town in South Forsyth. They traveled into South Forsyth with a record of 2-3. Lambert had no chance in this game as they got pummeled by the Eagles 38-0. The Longhorns were down early as South had a 62-yard rushing touchdown. The Longhorns managed to drive down the field, but they missed a field goal. This is when the game went down hill as South piled on 17 points in the second quarter. The domination continued throughout the third quarter as they scored 14. This is when they stopped the beat down and put in their second and third string. QB Bobby Gabriel had a rough game as he went 4 for 15 and he had two interceptions. The run game was not very dominate either as the leading rusher was Justin Bruno and he had 57 yards rushing. The game got ugly quick and some will say that the score does not reflect how bad they actually got beat. They will have their hands full with the North Forsyth Raiders this week as they will have homecoming festivities going on. Hopefully, they can get back on track.
