Estelle Shen, a senior at Lambert High School, is regarded as an astounding student by teachers and peers alike. You may find her laughing with her friends in class or leading a meeting in marketing, but everything that she pursues makes an impact on her community.

One of Estelle’s top priorities is her involvement in Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) as the current President of Lambert’s chapter which is focused on preparing students for success in business and marketing. She takes pride in leading others and helping them develop their own workplace skills.

However, Estelle’s success was not linear. First joining DECA her freshman year, Estelle had no idea what she wanted to specialize in or how she could pursue her passions. But her experience in marketing class allowed her to excel in various competitions and learn about business in real world scenarios.

As she began to participate in various events and learn more about business, Estelle realized that the business field of finance was truly what she wanted to specialize in.

“Within all the business plans that I was making, I discovered that my favorite part was always predicting all the different numbers from my financial plan,” Estelle said. “I really enjoy seeing all the numbers come together to form a balance.”

This year, President Estelle is in charge of numerous different activities within the organization. Each week, she leads her 15-person officer team through a meeting in order to delegate and plan upcoming events. And each month, she conducts a chapter meeting to inform the 900+ members about current information.

One of Estelle’s most impactful pursuits has been the various different fundraising events she has helped plan.

“We’ve executed a lot of different fundraisers, raising more than $2,000 for our local charities,” Estelle said.

Some of Estelle’s most notable accomplishments within DECA have been during competitions and other large conferences. Last year, Estelle attended the International Career Development Conference, where she competed against highly trained competitors from all over the world.

“I was able to place eight in the world for my event Franchise Business Plan, which is a really big accomplishment to me,” Estelle said.

However, this merely scratches the surface of Estelle’s impressive list of achievements. In addition to her success in Franchise Business Plan, Estelle has won first place in Food Marketing at the regional level just last year.

Estelle’s current plans are to continue to succeed during her last year with Lambert DECA and next year to attend the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business for finance. Estelle will continue to succeed wherever she goes, and we will hope to see her become an upcoming star within the business field.
