As the yearbook comes together, a lot of hard work happens behind the scenes to capture memories from the school year. One of the students helping lead that process is senior Emaline Dupree, a senior editor of the yearbook this year.
Emaline has been on the yearbook staff since her freshman year. Now as a senior, she is one of four editors and one of three senior editors. She originally wanted to join the yearbook to make the transition into high school easier.
“I knew high school would be overwhelming, and I wanted to be part of a group right away,” Dupree said.
Joining the yearbook staff helped her meet people and feel more connected to the school since the yearbook staff is a very tight knit group. She has now worked her way up to editor in her senior year.
As an editor, Dupree helps oversee the staff’s work and plays a big role in creating the theme for the yearbook. One part of the book she is most proud of this year is the design. She explained that the design process took a lot of time and thought, with several ideas the staff loved and wanted to use throughout the entire book. Being on the yearbook staff has helped Dupree grow as a leader and student.
She said the class has taught her important skills like time management, especially when working to meet deadlines. As editor, she has learned how to give constructive criticism while still being kind and understanding when mistakes happen. Dupree said these skills will be helpful to her in college and in the future.
Dupree believes the yearbook is important to the school community because it highlights memories and major events from the year. It also shows an overall picture of the year, including sports and athletes who stood out.
“It’s something people can look back on and remember everything that happened,” Dupree said.
Dupree encourages interested students to sign up for yearbook as an elective class. She said students will learn valuable skills and make friendships they may not have expected.
Over the past three years, Dupree has had many memorable moments serving as a staff member for the yearbook. Her favorite memory from the yearbook staff was being told last year that she would be one of the senior editors for this year’s book, a moment she says meant a lot to her.
With her leadership and dedication, Emaline Dupree has helped make this year’s yearbook something students can look back on for years to come.
