Lambert Seniors with an 18th birthday on or before March 12, 2024, are eligible to vote in the 2024 Presidential Primary Election. The primary election serves as a preliminary election where voters choose their preferred candidate within their political party. Essentially, this decides which two candidates for the Republican and Democratic parties will go on the ballot for the upcoming general (presidential) election.

Georgia is an open primary state. This means that voters can select either party’s ballot regardless of their own affiliation but can only vote in one party’s primary.

The early voting period began on February 19 and will continue through March 8, with expected results for the primary on March 12. The polls are typically open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. during polling periods, though it’s important to check at  https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/mvp-dashboard?type=1

for exact times based on your own plan for voting. On election day, you can vote from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. As long as you are in line at 7 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

Polling locations in the area include Sharon Springs Park, Midway Park Community Building, and the Elections and Voter Registration Office. If you cannot make the polls in person or prefer to vote remotely, you can also request an absentee ballot at https://securemyabsenteeballot.sos.ga.gov/s/.

As young voters hold the future of our country, it’s important to get out and make our voices heard.

“I think in today’s day and age, where the political climate is so divisive, and everybody has an opinion, your voice is important,” Lambert senior Sravani Kari said. “As one of our rights, voting is so important to let our voices be heard in the government and elect leaders who reiterate and express our values.”

Qualifying Seniors can register to vote online here: https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/voter-registration?IsRegisterNow=true#no-back-button.
