Welcoming the 2022 Winter Olympics

It is time for the highlight of the winter season – the 2022 Winter Olympics. Taking place in China, this year’s opening ceremony begins at 7:30 pm GMT on Friday, February 4, and ends on Sunday, February 20.

The first event, curling, will take place two days before the opening ceremony on February 2nd. 

The events will be held in China across three different regions: Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou. The opening and closing ceremonies, all ice events and four snow sports will be held in central Beijing.

Alpine skiing is also known as downhill skiing, times competitors on their ability to ski down a mountain. In addition to alpine skiing, all sliding events will be held in Yanqing, a suburb located in the mountains. Other skiing variations and snowboarding events will take place in Zhangjiakou, a rural city in northern China. 

This year’s winter Olympics consists of 15 events with a total of 109 medal events. Some of the most popular events are figure skating, snowboarding and ice hockey. 

This season, the Winter Olympics have introduced 7 new and exciting events to their collection. 

These events consist of Women’s Monobob, an individual bobsleigh event, Men’s and Women’s Big Air, a freestyle skiing event and previous events that are now allowing mixed-gender teams. 

The 2022 Olympic season also consists of many new and talented athletes hoping to make their country proud. 

Russia has introduced its youngest member, Kamila Valieva. Only 15 years old, she will be competing in figure skating and has already established herself as a force to be reckoned with. 

India is also excited to send their only athlete to qualify, Arif Khan, to the Olympics for Alpine skiing. On the other hand, Latvia hopes that their “superman,” Martin Dukurs, finally wins the gold that they believe he deserves for skeleton racing. 

Due to COVID, the Olympics will not be open to everyone, with only a select number of spectators who live in China able to witness this event firsthand. You can watch the events on NBCUniversal, Peacock, Hulu, FuboTV, Youtube or Sling.
