After finishing 20-8 overall and 12-2 in region play, with a Sweet Sixteen finish in 2025, the Lambert Girls’ Basketball Team enters the 2025–2026 season with high expectations.
After her first season, Sophomore Madelyn Kate Gersmehl is ready to get back to work with the team to outdo their performance from last year.
“Performing at the best of my ability and collaborating effectively with the rest of the team is a big goal for the season,” Gersmehl noted.
Her dedication and goals mirror the team’s hopes of growing stronger and going further into the playoffs. The team has been working hard in their off season during preseason conditioning and during the season to improve their endurance and ability to move the ball up and down the court. The hard work and dedication the team puts in prepares them for the upcoming season and playoffs.
With the playoffs on their mind, the team has a long season ahead with challenging games to come. Each game is an opportunity for the team and individual players to work on mistakes and build momentum for each and every game.
“North Forsyth is our biggest competition this season because we had a tough 59-41 loss to them, and they are a talented team,” Gersmehl shared.
Having tough opponents on the schedule, mental preparation is just as important as physical preparation. Mental preparation is shown through managing pressure and supporting teammates throughout the highs and lows of the season, such as tough individual plays and losses.
“I have struggled with self confidence over time as a player, and it is something I continue to improve each season,” Gersmehl said.
The mental preparation begins in the locker room before games. The team gets prepared together by listening to music and helping each other get ready. Individually, each player mentally prepares through various strategies such as Bible studies and quiet time.
“Getting my hair braided, listening to music and doing a Bible study helps me get into the right mindset before each and every game,” Gersmehl noted.
With strong team chemistry, mindset and desire to be better than last season, Lambert Girls Basketball is excited to kick off their season on November 11, 2025 against Walton High School at home. The team is making sure to take their time mentally and physically preparing for the upcoming game and hoping to set the tone for the season ahead.
