On November 13, 2024, 17 Longhorn athletes signed to colleges, pursuing their dream of playing a sport at the collegiate level. Three Lambert Girls Lacrosse players signed to make their dreams come true, including Kara Lindsey, offensive player and exceptional athlete who committed to Lander University.
“I felt most comfortable and could see myself going there the most when I went there and visited the school, “ Lindsey shared.
Visiting the campus was an eye-opening experience for Lindsey, and after meeting the coaches, it was clear to her that Lander was the right place. Committing to a school is truly an exciting experience, and Lindsey is looking forward to all the new things that will be around her.
“I am most looking forward to meeting my teammates and going off to college and just meeting new people,” Linsdsey said.
When it came to making the final decision to go to Lander, Lindsey asked herself an important question to ensure she was making the right choice.
“Would I still go to this school even if lacrosse wasn’t a factor?” Lindsey said. “When I answered yes to that question, I realized this was the school for me.”
This process helped Lindsey feel confident that her that Lander wasn’twasn’t just a place to play lacrosse– it was also a place she was excited to see herself go to in the future.
Going away for college can be a new experience for many student-athletes and can bring up numerous emotions due to the new environment, new people and new life away from family.
“The thing I’m most nervous about is the big change away from my family,” Lindsey shared. “Even though I’m only three hours away, I think the hardest change is not having them in my day- to-day routine.”
Despite this distance, Lindsey is ready to take on this new chapter in her life at Lander, and is determined to reach her goal of excelling in both athletics on the lacrosse field and academics as a business major.
While she is majoring in business, lacrosse is the thing that she is most excited for.
“I’m most excited for fall season lacrosse at Lander,” Lindsey said. “They post on their media page on Instagram a lot, and they do a lot of fall training but they always make it fun. I’m most excited to have fun and get better.”
Although college can be scary, Lindsey feels reassured knowing that she will have a strong team bond that she can rely on.
Lindsey also shared her advice for athletes going through the recruitment process.
“God has a plan for you in store, and you will know what is right for you when deciding on a school,” Lindsey said. “The recruiting process is never easy and sometimes may not go how you planned it out to be, but don’t get discouraged and give up on continuing a sport that you love. Everything will work out the way it needs to be and trust the process.”
Kara Lindsey is going to miss being a part of the Lambert Girls Lacrosse team, but she is also ready to put in the hard work, to grow as a player, student and person at Lander University. As she embarks on thi new journey, she is excited to see what the future holds for her at Lander.
