Lambert Girls Softball team poses for a picture after winning the region championship (Lambert Softball X), October 12, 2023.

On October 11, for the first time since 2016, Lambert Softball concluded their season with a region championship victory against Denmark High School.
Lambert won nine out of ten games prior to the region championship. These previous games that led up to the championship gave the team a chance to strategize and come up with the best composition.

“We kind of use those games to figure out lineups and who’s going to play what position and what order would make the most sense,” Head Coach Youngblood explained.

Lambert Softball’s nine semi-final wins allowed them to host the final games against Denmark High School. Denmark posed as a difficult opponent to play against, especially their defense.

“Their defense stands out to me as being one of the best that we’ve seen all year, especially in the infield,” Coach Youngblood remarked.

Despite a challenging opponent, Lambert’s team was able to defeat Denmark in two out of the three region championship games.

Players such as senior pitcher Hannah Cole helped lead the team to victory.
“She pitched all three games and did a great job, battling against a team that knows her well,” Coach Youngblood commented.

Hannah Cornetto, Ashley Fitts, Katia Castillo and Jane Fang were also some of the vital players when it came to Lambert coming out on top. Every player contributed to the victory, providing valuable hits and runs when they were most needed.

With the season and region championship concluded, playoffs began. The team tried their best to come out on top once again but were knocked off during playoffs by Mill Creek High School. Youngblood was still proud of his team’s efforts and performance.

“It was tough, but I was proud…they had a really, really fantastic season,” Coach Youngblood commented.

In the offseason, Youngblood and his fellow assistant coaches will focus on leadership training for the senior players as well as making sure players get their individual strength training and conditioning in. This will prepare the team once tryouts occur in May and the season starts again.
