Last semester junior Goalie Madelyn Evans announced her commitment to further her academic and athletic career at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level.
Evans chose Drexel because of the location being in the middle of the city. The community around her and the positive atmosphere the coaches and players created throughout her visits made her excited to be a part of their program.
“The coaches and the energy were perfect and they were very welcoming,” Evans shared. “I’ve also always wanted to live in the city and Drexel’s urban campus was perfect.”
Evans is grateful for her support system such as her family and coaches. She plays for a club team out of New Jersey because of the higher competition up North and is thankful for the support they have given her throughout the recruiting process.
“My parents have taken me to many tournaments across the country and sacrificed so much time for me to be able to be recruited and I’m very grateful to them,” Evans mentioned.
Evans spent most of her time traveling to showcases and tournaments, so staying on top of her schoolwork and staying disciplined has been a key factor throughout her recruiting process.
“It was very important to stay on top of work with the amount of school I missed to travel to camps and tournaments,” Evans noted. “My recruiting journey definitely helped me develop time management skills, which is important for future professional life.”
Throughout this experience, Evans learned how important it is to stay relaxed throughout stressful situations and to trust the process. She shared some advice to other athletes thinking about going through the recruitment process.
“It can be easy to freak out or be anxious when you know there are college coaches watching you, but even when it’s stressful to play in front of coaches, you can’t let your sport stop being fun,” Evans shared.
Evans is excited to work throughout her junior and senior season to prepare for the collegiate level.
