The National Football League (NFL) concluded with Super Bowl LX last week, finishing its 106th season in league history. The season ended with the Seattle Seahawks facing off against the New England Patriots in San Francisco, with Seattle capitalizing a commanding win. The championship game provided many memorable plays that highlighted the dominance and skill of both teams.
However, the Super Bowl was not a fan favorite for those who like to see high scoring and offensive driven games. The last time a Super Bowl had no touchdowns before halftime was Super Bowl LIII, when the Patriots faced off against the Los Angeles (LA) Rams. However, both defenses came out to play, and it showed. The Seahawks forced six sacks, two interceptions and held the Patriots offense to only 13 points. Whereas the Patriots allowed only 25 percent of red-zone conversions, and limited star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njiba to four catches for 27 yards. Nonetheless, the Patriots offense seemed lackluster, and struggled to find rhythm against the Seahawks suffocating defensive pressure and tight coverage.
“I would say the biggest challenges the Patriots offense faced was the Seahawks defensive line against our offensive line,” Junior Jayden Smith explained.
Moving on, the Seahawks offense lacked efficiency, which was surprising to fans because the team’s offense was clicking the whole year. However, one bright spot for the offense was Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker who totaled over 160 yards, which was 100 more than the second player, when factoring in both teams. Walker seemed to be unstoppable, as he averaged five yards per run, and would have marked a long touchdown run if it weren’t for a holding call that brought the play back.
“Walker emerged as a really good back during the playoffs,” Senior Shreyas claimed.
Walker’s performance is sure to be one for the record books, tagging along with the other legends who have won the Super Bowl MVP award before. Moving forward, the offseason for the NFL had already begun the minute the Super Bowl ended, and it brings up a question for both teams: what will the offseason focus be?
“The team should focus on the offensive line during the offseason, despite most of them being rookies, as they needed a veteran presence in the locker room for motivation,” Smith noted.
In all, this Super Bowl was an exciting one to watch for sure. It brought defensive highlights, with a mix of offense sparks. Nevertheless, the end of the Super Bowl marks a seven month drought without any football. Nonetheless, fans have the draft and free agency to look forward to. Furthermore, it will be exciting to see who will face in the big game next year.
