The wait is almost over as Season Four of “The Boys” premieres on June 13, 2024, on Prime Video. One of the newest up-and-coming shows, “The Boys,” has solidified itself in recent years as a great superhero show, captivating audiences with its dark humor and gritty storytelling. Though filming wrapped in April 2023, the 2023 Hollywood strikes caused a delay, pushing the much-anticipated season back for over a year. Despite the setback, fans can finally get ready for the explosive return of “The Boys” as it prepares to reclaim its throne as the wildest superhero show on television.

This dark and satirical drama throws open the curtain on a world where superheroes are far from the squeaky-clean idols they portray themselves to be. In reality, they are corrupt, power-hungry individuals who exploit their abilities for personal gain. The story follows a group of vigilantes known as “The Boys,” led by Billy Butcher, who are determined to expose the truth about these super-powered individuals and hold them accountable for their actions. With plenty of action, humor and social commentary, “The Boys” is sure to entertain viewers who crave a unique take on the superhero genre.

“I really like The Boys because the showrunners aren’t afraid to take risks,” Lambert junior Jay Hyun said. “The plot is unique and different. Hopefully, season four will be the same.”

While specific plot points remain under wraps, the season is expected to explore the fallout from Billy Butcher’s explosive actions in season three. Additionally, the showrunner, Eric Kripke, has teased a deeper dive into the origins of the mysterious superhero compound, Compound V.

The original characters are also expected to return this coming season, such as Antony Starr’s Homelander, Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher and Jack Quaid’s Hughie Campbell. Homelander, in particular, thanks to Starr’s performance, seems to be the standout character fans are most excited to see again in the upcoming season.

“The casting is great, and all of the actors so far have done really well,” Lambert sophomore Joshua Suh said. “I think Antony Starr, in particular, has done a great job portraying his character. He’s creepy and menacing, but I hope we get to see more of him next season.”

Homelander has become a favorite among the fans, with Starr’s portrayal of the complex and sinister character earning widespread acclaim. In the upcoming season, fans eagerly await Starr’s continued portrayal of Homelander as the character delves into darker territories, adding new depths to his complexity.

Additionally, “The Boys” welcomes some exciting new faces this season, including Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi in undisclosed roles. Their involvement has sparked speculation about potential storylines, particularly with Elordi’s casting, as he’s known for playing characters with darker personalities.

Overall, season four promises to be an explosive one, with the world teetering on the brink and “The Boys” forced to confront an even more dangerous landscape. While details remain scarce, one thing’s for sure: the fight against corrupt superheroes and the powerful corporations behind them is far from over.
