Senior year is undeniably one of the most bittersweet experiences high school has to offer and to go hand in hand with that, senior sports are one of those wonderful but fleeting instances. Senior, Patrick Wood has experienced that feeling a lot this year as he finished his last season with the boys’ golf team.

Wood has been playing golf for four years now and has been a part of the Lambert team since his sophomore year. He said that compared to previous years, the sport itself hasn’t felt very different, but the attitude he has towards the team has shifted a lot during his senior season.

“It has felt different because I’ve felt like I have had more of a role as a leader, teaching the younger kids how to act,” Wood explained. “We’ve felt more connected this year.”

The team has had an excellent season so far this year, and the boys’ golf team got second in the area competition beating out West Forsyth by one stroke. The team will be heading off to the state competition soon.

Wood mentioned that the drive he has towards the team and the accomplishments they have had this year have felt much heavier than in the past. He thinks that a large part of this is how his perspective has changed in his final season.

“I feel like we want it more this year as seniors, but I feel like we have an uphill battle this year as we have yet to play at our full potential,” Wood said. “We just have to grind through it and get there.”

Regardless of the team’s performance, Wood has found far more camaraderie this year as he finishes out his high school career. He said that the best memory he has had of the season so far was the area competition practices. He claimed that the team had really bonded that day and the practice was extremely effective and enjoyable.

One of the things that Wood mentioned was some final advice he has for the rising senior class as they approach their final season with the Lambert team.

“Live it up,” Wood said. “It goes by really fast, and don’t take the season before for granted.”
