Moments after the Atlanta Falcons’ last regular season game, the Falcons fired head coach Raheem Morris on January 4th, 2026. Morris was signed as the head coach back in the beginning of 2024, and failed to make the playoffs for the two years he was there. Consequently, it brings up an alarming question for the Falcons staff: Who will be the next head coach?
Another key thing to note is that the Falcons’ offense this year was lackluster, even with great offensive pieces. The Falcons have so far interviewed six potential candidates for the position, and are leaning towards an offensive minded coach. Of those six, the top candidates seem to be John Harbaugh from the Baltimore Ravens; Klint Kubiak from the Seattle Seahawks; and Kevin Stifanski from the Cleveland Browns.
“I think they should get a promising coordinator, like Klint Kubiak,” Lambert junior Krishna Agarwal said. “Kubiak has led the number one offense in the league and the number one seed in the National Football Conference (NFC).”
Klint Kubiak seems to be the best offensive minded coach/coordinator in this year’s coaching carousel. He has led the Seahawks to the number one offense in the league, however, many fans are wondering how his inexperience at being a head coach will translate for the Falcons. Additionally, Kubiak may not even be in the lead for the position, as there seems to be two other candidates ahead of him. It also has been heard that John Harbaugh and Kevin Stefanski have been competitive for several head coaching positions around the league, not just for the Falcons.
“I think it’s Harbaugh or Stefanski,” Agarwal stated. “[Falcons] definitely leaning towards coaches with more experience.”
Several Falcons’ fans on social media seem to adhere to Agarwal’s statement, and it’s understandable why. Harbaugh has an excellent history as a head coach. In his 18 year tenure in Baltimore, he brought them one Super Bowl and only missed the playoffs six times. As for Stefanski, he led the Browns to their first playoff appearance in 18 years, and first playoff win in 26 years, in 2020. Additionally, he won coach of the year twice in his six year stand. So, if the Falcons decide to go either way, they surely won’t be disappointed.
Overall, the Falcons have a huge business decision to make with several promising candidates in grasp. Whatever way they go will have to pay off, as the fans have been waiting nearly a decade for a playoff berth. With a commanding roster already in place, the Falcons’ next coach shouldn’t have any difficulty bringing the team a playoff appearance, but the league has seen crazier things.
